Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to open new Inverness College UHI building
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, Chancellor of the University of the Highlands and Islands, will officially open Inverness College UHI’s new building on Tuesday 17 November. Her Royal Highness will tour the £50 million facility and unveil a plaque to mark the occasion.
Following the opening, over 400 invited guests will gather at the college for the University of the Highlands and Islands Foundation Day ceremony. The annual event celebrates the endeavours and successes of the university’s students, staff and supporters.
Her Royal Highness will present honorary awards and prizes and music will be provided by student band, Tannara. The event will conclude with a guest lecture by the award-winning writer and director Douglas Mackinnon, who is known for his work on television series such as Doctor Who, Sherlock and Outlander and on the 2006 feature film, The Flying Scotsman.
This is the first time the University of the Highlands and Islands Foundation Day has been held in Inverness. The event was held in Shetland last year and in Fort William in 2013.
